I've acquired a new desktop PC. A smart looking 'AllinOne' that takes up less space. With the bonus of less cabling. No tangle of wires to acquire and trap dust in inaccessible places. Bliss.
I'm in the middle of setting it up. Transferring files; documents; Family history research; various address books; login details and passwords; Favorite web pages and Bookmarks; not to mention zillions of photos. All moved from the old machine to the new.
It will be interesting to see, once it's all complete, just how much of the 1TB hard drive has swallowed up all my computing history from 1994 to date. Not to mention whether some of the old documents will still open with the new operating system. Fingers crossed.

Aha, I cracked that problem when I was about to move from computer number 2 to computer number 3*.
What you do is put all your files on an external hard drive, and when you change computers, you just plug it into the new computer. Takes a minute or two :-)
* Which was a Vista one, which was unceremoniously dumped in favour of an Apple after about five months.
Thanks Mark - I managed to do this with a USB memory stick but the old PC was very unstable so it took a while, but this is the first time I've set up a new PC and not had to manually enter all my website favorites/bookmarks.
Printer and everything now all connected running well. Not bad for a silver surfer.
I'm pleased to think you are still keeping afriendly eye on me. Nice to hear from you.x
New computers are grand, aren't they? Everything is so fast and shiny for a while... until, after a while, all those downloads you don't really need start to clog up the system! Mine's two years old now but still speeding along.
Are you Ok Lady T?
I see no signs of you around and about.
Wondering if you've achieved lift-off on the new PC? Or what...
Smiles!
And a bit concerned...
X
Hello AMKT and Merryw - I've just called in to see when i last bloged and found your comments. Im not sure why I didn't receive an email to tell me comments have been left.
Nice to hear from you both - just off to check my settings - and hope to post soon with an update.
Found out then when I changed PC's I failed to set up every emails to dump in the one Inbox. Hence Penny S at Tiscali was full to overflowing. I'll have to look at emptying it out or closing it down.
