When the Cat's Away the mice play they say ... Well, I've just enjoyed a very rare hour alone while MyMan has been out for a treatment. I wanted to sit and just enjoy the solitude with perhaps a good book. But then realised it was too good an opportunity to go through the kitchen store cupboards and clear out all the old stock of unopened jars and packets which had long gone by their 'use by dates'.
I even managed to find something which I think used to be a pinkish Thousand Island dressing with a 'best before 08/2000' date. As it had turned blue I binned it.

Wow - blue thousand island dressing? Yikes. I'm glad to hear you got a little time to yourself. But after hearing about the dressing, I'm thinking maybe you should have read the book instead! LOL.
Lovely to hear from you teeni.
You're very good! I'd have taken the hour with the book!
Blue Thousand Island dressing? That's something you don't see every day!
A rare hour alone - that's a shame, we all need space! But I do know exactly what you mean, having much the same situation myself.
Regarding the blue sauce - well, recently my aunt presented me one lunchtime with a bottle of brown liquid which I thought was ginger beer. "I've been saving this for a special occasion" she said. It turned out to be last century's Aqua Libra. It was fortunate that she showed me the label first I felt, and I'm gagging slightly at the memory...!
I would have blogged! You are very disciplined!
Hello jay and also to Maggie - I was tempted to do many things but I welcomed the chance to bin things without being nagged over 'wastage'.
Merryw - my aunt has a bottle of champagne she's had for 40 years -all thickly crusted in dust - she threatens (sorry, suggested) opening it for my 60th. I fear it may explode if it's moved. Does a non vintage champagne keep that well??!
