HMRC HM Revenue & Customs

HMRC stands for HM Revenue & Customs. What strange customs they must have at HMRC. HMRC obviously don't have to worry about the Data Protection Act. Firewall protection. Fraudulent use of information. Identity theft. Any kind of protection. No kind of protection. Protection rackets.

Now when I was at work and we had an audit the auditor came to our office to inspect the files on site. They were confidential and we were responsible for them. Therefore they were only taken out by the case worker. If any other person within the organisation needed to see them they came to us and sat in our office while they went through our files. Using our computers with us logging on to the files and system with our password.

Don't Auditors do that any more? What is the point of an audit if you can't check the system on site. Surely anyone could pull the wool over an Auditors eyes by selecting what information to send off to the Auditor. Exactly what were they going to audit? Maybe it was an audit testing out the security in connection with the Data Protection Act. Especially after their previous embarrassing lapse in security in September.

I heard the emails read aloud on the news last night - frightening evidence of a real c*** up. Nothing new there then. Goodbye Darling do we think, very soon?

Our country is going to the dogs. Children can't read, millions of adults are on incapacity benefit, nobody knows how many illegal immigrants are here or where they're working illegally, there's the first bank run in 140 years, the Govt has rashly agreed to bail out all failing banks, 25m people's personal details have very probably been stolen and there are still no national accounts published nor an independent National Audit Office. It's a disgrace.

I have a friend who works in a tax office and they are thoroughly demoralised. But most of them voted for this government. How's that for irony?

my neighbour is more worried than most about the loss of all these 25 million claim records, because he is behind at least a dozen of them and he's only got a cat.

Rilly - tell your neighbour he need not worry - all HMRC will be far too busy tracking down the information. They wont act on any of it - they just like to collect the details in job lots to make themselves feel powerful. None of the civil serpents know how to collate or cross check data on the computer. It is considered far too expensive to run programmes so it's just used as a giant filing drawer.

One blogger (I forget who) said that the NAO were testing HMRC's gullibility levels. HMRC failed the test. Also, what WW says.
