Foot and Mouth

I think it's dreadful that the farming community have to be worrying about Foot and Mouth outbreak again. And the poor farmers have had to endure postings from the Govt Chief Veterinary Officer Debbie Reynolds. Having said, that when I read the symptoms I'm a bit concerned that's what I'm suffering from - not hay fever after all. I'm not saying here that I am bovine.

I've collected my new orthotics and have been told to wear them in, slowly and gradually. They feel so comfortable I don't want to take them off. But I have old muscles and ligaments which will have to adjust to the new positioning of my feet/ankles/legs/ hips and so on - ad infinitum.

I also feel sorry for our new PM. Just started a holiday in Dorset and this latest crisis. Talk about a baptism of fire. I'm just so relieved we haven't had to cope with touchy, feely, gulping bravely , stiff upper lipped, Tony Blair.

Meanwhile lets just keep our fingers crossed for all the farmers that this is soon sorted and resolved as quickly as possible.

Keep them well-supported toes crossed. All around me, even this far from Surrey, F+M is having a negative effect. Friends are mourning the delay of their bacon butties, and I am worried that the pigs will get too large, due as they were for slaughter next week. I could write a list of other mini disasters, but won't. Much worse for those farmers neighbouring Pirbright.

Mopsa - I know am sorry it's affecting you. I'm glad that have DEFRA finally agreed to close the footpaths in the affected area. I don't feel this been managed very well so far. I'm still surprised they have to cart the carcasses over such a distance to dispose of them. Lets hope its soon over. All digits crossed that ther are no more outbreaks.Hugs xx

Good luck with the feet, hope you'll soon be tripping lightly - tripping the light fantastic even maybe....!

Have the decorators done a good job? - Is this routine maintenance or prior to moving I wonder?

I like your "gulping bravely" remark on Tony Blair - dead right!

Take care x

Hello 2 Merry visitors.
Merri - thanks for visit again - I staggered around Sidmouth town in them for an hour and a half and had to stop twice for coffee - a good excuse.

Merryw - Hi again - still not at work? Routine maintenance and also just in case - you never know. We've now been prostrated by the arrival of the bill ...

I've commented quite late on this and today (Saturday, Aug 11), it seems the outbreak has hopefully been contained. I come from a farming family and one of my cousins was subject to a contiguous cull - or rather his cattle were, not him!

Hello AMKT - do you mean your brother's cattle were affected in this outbreak or in 2001? We still keeping our fingers crossed no more outbreaks thorugh next few days.

Yes, in 2001 he lost all his cattle. He was well compensated financially but he was devastated to lose all his breeding stock, a line which had been started by his late father (my uncle).

AMKT - so sad - I hope he re-started again.
